Pack Rat In The Engine
Here's something you don't see everyday....I went to start my jeep one morning. There was a loud BANG and the power steering went out, followed by all my engine gauges going to red as I tried to make it down the hill where I live to the service station.
I switched off the engine and looked under the hood...and....there was a huge pack rat caught in my cooling fan, which had thrown all the belts off!
I was so amazed I took a quick pic.
You can see the belts wrapped around him and the naked pully spindle above.
I guess he had crawled in there to keep warm during the night and when I started the engine in the morning he got nailed. Yes, he was quite dead from the impact of the fan blades sorry to say.
When talking with some of the locals, they told me this is a common happening, and that pack rats are notorious for eating the wires and hoses out of your vehicle if you leave it parked outside at night in the desert.
Wild, huh?
