Desert Driftwood
I often find the gnarled shapes of the weathered wood in the desert reminds me of driftwood. The thing is, even though it looks dead, it's actually quite alive, just waiting for a brief rain to spur new growth.
As we enter into the summer months up here in the high desert, things begin to take on this dried and burnt appearance. The dry hot air gets a smell of creosote in it that's not altogether unpleasant, but the heat is a killer.
The cool mornings and balmy evenings are the time to enjoy the desert during this period, and of course the starry summer nights are awesome! A full moon shinning down on the desert landscape is a sight that must be experienced to really be appreciated.
