Desert Snow Storm
We had a late-season snow storm up here in the high desert of Joshua Tree this weekend! This picture is from the Covington Flats area of the park:
Beautiful! We woke up to snow on the ground and immediately jumped in the jeep and headed out in the park (Joshua Tree National Park in California) to do a little exploring and sight-seeing before it all melted. Absolutely pristine landscapes and crisp clean air were our rewards. It really was a magical few hours we spent out there. We proceeded up the trail to the mountain look-out that overlooks Palm Springs and the other desert cities of Palm Desert and Cathedral City. By the time we got up there it was a complete white-out and all we could see was blowning snow. We did get some awesome pictures of snow encrusted Joshua Trees and cacti though!
By the time we came down the trail all the local yokels in their jacked-up 4x4's were tearing up the road, so we went home and barbecued some breakfast, then napped and watched western movies till nightfall, when we went out exploring again up in the park. The wind was blowning and it was really cold so we didn't stay out too long...
...just enough to throughly ENJOY this freak desert snow-storm!
