Thanksgiving In The Desert

Well, I'm loaded up and heading for the desert mountains for Thanksgiving. Won't be much turkey and stuffings where I'm headed, just lots of freash air and stars...

I'm not sure of the exact name of this rocky range, but I call them the Coyote Hills because, you guessed it, there are lot's of coyotes out there. When ever I cook out at the base of them, as the smoke drifts towards the hills the coyote's begin to howl and call. They smell the steaks sizzling and are anxious for some left-overs (I always leave the steak bones for them).

I decided this holiday I would camp up top and do some exploring on foot. It's about in the mid-seventies during the day (this is out near Joshua Tree, CA) but at night it dips down to the low-forties. Chilllllllllyyyyy.

Once that sun goes down the temp drops rapidly, so I've packed a heavy army jacket and my silk long undies. I'll probably take my little one-man tent, but I haven't decided. I usually just sleep out under the stars in the desert, but if the cold north wind is blowing, it's nice to be able to zip up in a tent.

So, have a good turkey day and I'll see you when I get back...with some pics, of course!
