Desert Wash Blues
Well, not all desert adventures come out on the right side of the trail, ya' know???
I was taking an old mining road (circa 1889) up to a secluded spot I had been told about to check out some old ore carts that were supposed to be up there near the tailings dump (that's mining lingo for the huge pile of dirt they take out of the mine, hehe;)
Anyway...the directions said the road went right up the side of the mountain and then leveled out onto a small plain that was just after a sandy wash dotted with a few "small rock ridges you can get across with a jeep".....
Here's where the wash ended with the "small" rock ridges...
Yeah, right! Those walls are like twenty feet high! Just what I want to try and do, scale a sheer granite grade like that in a jeep by myself in the middle of no where...
So, time to back out, turn the nose into the wind and head back down the mountain before the sun sets and it get's dark.
Oh, well, it wouldn't be an ADVENTURE without a few wrong turns, now would it?
