End Of The Line
Here's something that always fascinates me when I explore the desert - how and why did cars like this one end up here?
I found this one when I was out exploring "Robber's Roost" up in the badlands north of Joshua Tree, CA. This is a rough area where bandits and rustlers used to hide out long ago. I was looking for artifacts when I came across this car lodged between some boulders, rusting away and full of bullet holes.
What's the story behind this desert wreck? The area just after this spot is really rough, even for 4 wheel drive vehicles, so did someone drive this out there and get stuck? Did they walk away and hopefully make it out on foot? It's obviously been there a few decades, so who knows?
The desert has more stories of missing people than just about anyplace else, save maybe the ocean.
...and no, I didn't see any bones, the coyotes and rats would of pulled a skeleton apart long ago. The only thing I kicked up was a desert cotton tail shading itself under the hood...and he hopped off in a hurry to find more shelter from the blazing August sun.
On another note, tomorrow night (Aug. 12th) is the start of the Perseid meteor showers and I'll be out there to watch!
