Desert Flats In July

Think it gets hot in the desert? Try 120 degrees wiht no shade in sight! July temps out on the flats are mind-melting, but that shouldn't keep us home, right?

I was out on the flats near Coyote Dry Lake Bed in Joshua Tree, CA when I took this pic. Always bring lots of water when you venture out into the backcountry during the summer. You'll need a minimum of two gallons a day per person. I carry a five gallon "jerry can" of water in the back when I go into the remote parts of the desert.

Summer nights in the desert are the best! Clear skys burning with stars and mild temps make it perfect to sit out and relax, just watch the days...they'll kill you if you aren't prepared!
